The Mini-Monies Program
Deadline for Application: Monday, March 14th, 2022 (5pm) Announcement of Selected Applications: March 21st, 2022 Expected Distribution of Mini-Monies: Early April, 2022
As a part of the Community Navigator Program, the Vermont Principal Association will be distributing mini-monies. The goal of the funds is to provide resources directly to schools in service of the above listed disadvantaged groups around the state of Vermont. The VPA is looking for applications from teachers/schools/districts working to inspire innovation, positive impact, and access to knowledge/resources for disadvantaged youth and their families to small business development in Vermont. The applications will be assessed on the following criteria and geographical distribution in the state will be considered as well:
Does the plan serve one or more of the targeted communities (veterans, women, BIPOC, rural)?
Does the plan have potential for longterm impact on increased access to small business development support in Vermont?
Is the application overall well organized and ready to be enacted with fidelity?
What can the mini-monies be used for?
We want to support innovation! Applications that have a good plan for supporting the identified groups will all be considered. With that said, we have connected with many stakeholders on what kinds of things may be helpful. Here are some examples but please do not feel limited by these examples: specific supplies in a high school business class, the chance to stipend student leaders in building accessible “how to start a business” materials for their given communities, transportation and child-care problem solving, seed money for student start ups with business and entrepreneurial classes, money to bring in a speaker series of local business innovators, money for off-campus field trips, access to additional software programming, food systems innovation among students at school and more.
More Details about the Financials/Reports:
There are three sized mini-monies available: $2,500, $5,000 or $7,500. Strong applications will have a clear description of the goals and plan for the mini-monies. A detailed budget is not necessary but a basic outline of how the money will be used is recommended. The mini-monies will be distributed in early April of 2022. Applying schools are welcome to have the funds used in their fiscal year 2022 (before July 1, 2022) and/or fiscal year 2023 (before July 1, 2023). For those who receive mini-monies, a simple report–with a basic summary and any available typical corresponding documentation (budgets, pictures of programs in action, etc.) will be due to the VPA on May 1st, 2023.
FAQ:
Can a district or school have multiple applications? Yes

Who will select the applications that are awarded? The VPA will work with a small group of members and partners to review the applications and make selections, based on the above listed criteria.
Can schools have a plan that will spend mini-monies this school and next school year? Yes, though the funding will come in one check in the spring of 2022.
What is the total amount being distributed? This program will distribute $65,000 to the field. If the total is not distributed in the spring of 2022, there will be a second opportunity in the fall of 2022.
